Regarding Topic 8: Ethical Issues in Digital Marketing——QR Code
Payments at the Mamak stall R&B
Learning Content: This week, I noticed that the Mamak stall
R&B downstairs in my neighborhood now supports eWallet scan payments such
as Touch 'n Go and Alipay. As far as I know, they usually only accept cash or
credit cards like Visa. This is quite new. The store clerk told us that the
elderly customers in the community are not yet accustomed to the change from
paying in large amounts of cash to completing payments by scanning codes.
However, young people really like its convenience and speed. Now, when going
out for a meal, all you need is a mobile phone. If you bring a wallet, it will
increase the risk of loss. It is evident that digital payments can bridge the
generational gap.
Business Application: This payment business model aligns with
the trend of promoting a cashless society as outlined in Malaysia's Digital
Economy Blueprint. However, the ethical issues involved are related to the
ethical issues in digital marketing mentioned in Topic 8.
In fact, in China, QR code payments are very common ways. Only
after I came to Malaysia did I realize that QR code payments are not as
widespread here. Many street vendors still only accept cash or credit cards like Visa. But now that I
have personally experienced QR code payments here, it is incredibly convenient,
and it feels no different from back in China. Although it involves personal
data privacy, as long as it is handled properly, the convenience and happiness
it brings far outweigh the potential security risks.
