EPPM1013 Digital Business Week 1 Topic 1: Understanding and Application of The Concepts of Digital Business Introduction
After class on Thursday, my friend and I went shopping in Kuala Lumpur. We strolled around Sunway Velocity and came across COTTON:ON. I saw a very nice dress and planned to wear it to the concert. When it was time to pay, the salesperson asked me as usual if I was a member of their store. I thought for a moment and realized I wasn't. Since I like their style of clothing, I figured it wouldn't be a bad idea to register as a member because I felt I would visit their store frequently. The salesperson then told me that registration was very simple and I could earn points. They would also send me emails about any promotions or new arrivals in the store. So, I followed the salesperson's instructions and quickly completed the membership registration.
I receive emails almost every day, detailing which items are on sale, with discounts of 30%, or seasonal promotions, and the arrival of new summer or autumn collections. This way, I can stay updated without having to visit the store in person.
The emails might be automatically categorized as spam by my email provider, which could prevent me from receiving them in a timely manner. There is also the risk of privacy leakage.
Business application: This also demonstrates the concept in topic 1 of digitizing the customer experience, completing the sales process through a route of social media promotion → purchase.
